Mission

The Latin American, Caribbean, and Latino Studies Program (LACLS) is an inter and transdisciplinary program dedicated to deepening understanding of the rich and diverse societies and peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean and their diasporas in the United States and beyond. Our mission is to advance research, teaching, and community engagement in these areas by integrating insights from the arts, humanities, social and environmental sciences, and other disciplines and community stakeholders. We strive to offer critical and inclusive undergraduate education and cultural exposure, study abroad opportunities, and support graduate students and faculty scholarship and professional development. Through this effort, we aim to empower the broader Latino/Latinx community in Kentucky and contribute to positive change in our complex, interconnected world in alignment with the University of Kentucky’s mission.
